Surprises on the first Friday!

It's definitely a new season. Throw out the pre-season rankings, there are some new teams that have something to say early in the season.

What surprised you the most? West Central losing their first regular season game in over five years? Tri-Valley going down in a close one to an improved Canton team? Milbank losing traction in the 4th quarter and losing to Sisseton? Aberdeen Roncalli going down to Cameron Pudwill and Redfield/Doland?

Tell us what surprised you the most this week!

Milbank goes down in 4th? lol. Sisseton was never behind in game. It was clear who the better team was tonight. Not taking anything away from Milbank! And in fairness Milbank had a couple kids out; doubtful it was enough to change the outcome. Sisseton shot themselves in the foot defensively on 3rd downs. Milbank’s 2nd TD was set-up on a 3rd n 24. The defender and WR became tangled and Milbank got the call, that’s as close as it got. Milbank hurt themselves on some offensive calls but the game was getting out of reach. I can only think of one time Sisseton punted the ball? Thom killed the Bulldogs tonight. VERY FAST! Was surprised at how balanced the Redman where! When they hit on all cylinders, they are very difficult to stop.

Milbank will lose one more next week in WC after that the strength of the remaining teams is week. They should finish 6-2.

Roncalli losing to R/D is a mild surprise. Many in the NE feel Roncalli is extremely over-rated and R/D extremely under-rated. R/D is going to surprise everyone with 6-2 finish. Losing to Milbank and being Sisseton's 1st win on their new field.

Roncalli will finish 5-3. Cox is Roncalli's best player. He just won't be the best player on the field most Friday nights.

Biggest surprise?

My surprise is Coach Hagen of Sisseton. He's finally realized in order to win games teams need to run the ball well. Sisseton is still passing happy and that's what they do best. But figure in the run with a great passing game and it's going to be a nightmare for opposing teams defensively. I was also shocked to see how improved the kicking game was. Milbank is a darn good club. They'll be there in the end. They always seem to start out slow and pick up steam. I wouldn't be surprised to see Milbank come out of WC win a win Friday night. How long as it been since we've seen WC 0-2? Now, that would be the biggest surprise of the year, bar none.

Good luck to all the teams this season.
